Ms. Illinois Johnson, age 78, took her heavenly rest on February 17th, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was born on December 8th, 1944 to Mrs. Jessie Simmons and her father whose name was unattainable. She was the last of 5 other siblings (4 brothers: Isaiah and Frank Simmons of West Palm Beach, Leroy of Pahokee, and Charles Jackson of Center Hill, Florida) who are all deceased. She was Married to Johnnie Lee Johnson for a number of years and later divorced, but through that marriage came their only child (daughter) Johnnie Mae Johnson-Baxter (deceased). She never remarried again. She worked at the Palm Beach County Home as a housekeeper for over 30 years and it was there that she retired. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, Shamira Matthew, Brandon Matthew, and Alisia Matthew, 3 great grandchildren, Mykah Edwards, Jakari Edwards, and Selena Edwards, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She touched so many lives over the years and never thought twice about lending a helping hand. She was a firm believer in God and always strived to do right by people whether she knew who you were or not. If the saying “I am my brother’s keeper” was a person it would be her. For she was the epitome of her favorite saying “Love is a verb.” She was a Godsend on earth and is now our Angel in heaven. She will forever be loved, missed and never ever forgotten. Until we meet again, you have fought a good fight of faith and can now take your rest.
